PW Board of County Supervisors to investigate police reporting of illegal immigrants to ICE

During a public special meeting by the Board of County Supervisors on Saturday, Nov. 21, Chairman Corey Stewart issued a directive for the Board’s independent internal auditor, RSM, to conduct an inquiry into whether police are following the Board’s direction and long-standing policy to report all founded illegal immigrant cases to ICE.

Further, the Board directed the Police Department to take immediate action to make certain officers report to ICE any person they encounter for whom there is an ICE warrant regardless of whether it is for a deportation, civil matter or criminal matter.

“In 2007 and 2008, Prince William County implemented what was considered one of the toughest enforcement policies in the nation with regard to illegal immigration reporting,” said Corey Stewart, Chairman. “Our police check the immigration status of every person they arrest on the streets. Our jail system checks the immigration status of 100% of the individuals in the jail. We have not had a single finding of racial profiling, and our policies serve as a model for communities across the nation. It is the Board’s intent through this directive to make certain this model is being properly implemented here in Prince William County.”
