Did you know that more than 10,000 people are killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes every year in the United States? Drunk driving is reckless and preventable, and the upcoming sobriety campaign is meant to get that point across. Drivers continue to break the law by driving impaired, putting thousands of travelers at risk every day.
This year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” high-visibility crackdown will run August 21st through the Labor Day holiday on September 7th. Prince William County Police, as well as law enforcement agencies throughout Virginia and the region, are targeting this time period because holiday weekends bring a surge in drunk-driving.
We want drivers to know that we don’t tolerate drunk driving. No excuses, no warnings. If drivers are caught driving impaired, they will be arrested.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that of the 10,076 people who were killed in impaired-driving crashes over the Labor Day holiday period in 2013, 65 percent were the drunk drivers themselves.
