Hearings March 10 & 12 on PRTC proposed FY 2016 budget

PRTC will hold two public hearings next week to present its proposed Fiscal Year 2016 budget and accept public comments about the plan.

The $68 million budget is austere because of financial limitations. The proposed budget calls for:
• Ceasing operation of the Route 1 OmniRide route, which offers two trips daily;
• Increasing fares, which if approved, would be the first fare change since July 2013 in keeping with PRTC’s policy of increasing fares every other year;
• Operating two new OmniRide commuter bus routes to the Mark Center in Alexandria with 100% of the funding coming from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation; and
• Applying for federal grants for various PRTC and Virginia Railway Express projects.

The hearings will begin with presentations at 7 p.m. followed by an opportunity for public comment. Hearings will be held on:
• Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the PRTC Transit Center
14700 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge, VA 22192

• Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Manassas City Hall
9027 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110
