Woodbridge teen, 14, dies, suspected of fatal overdose; alleged distributor arrested

Narcotics Distribution Investigation – On Thursday, April 26, 2022 at 9:57AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the Woodbridge (22193) area of Prince William County to investigate a fatal overdose.

The investigation revealed the victim, a 14-year-old male juvenile, was suspected of ingesting a counterfeit Percocet and became unconscious. Life-saving efforts were attempted, and the victim was transported to an area hospital where he died.

With assistance from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) lab for expedited analysis, the pills were confirmed to contain the extremely dangerous and illicit drug fentanyl.

In response to the death, which occurred less than 48 hours following the death of another teen, the police department and the DEA issued a warning to the community concerning the pills which were preliminarily believed to be the cause of death for both teens.

During an extensive investigation by the Prince William County Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau, in conjunction with our Federal partners with the DEA Washington Division and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), identified a suspected distributor who was operating in the Woodbridge area.

On May 11, the police department, DEA Washington Division and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), executed a search warrant at the home of the distributor on Palm Rd in Woodbridge. The distributor, identified as the accused, was located by authorities, and taken into custody without incident.

Recovered as a result of the search included a small quantity of suspected fentanyl-pressed counterfeit Percocet pills, marijuana, two firearms, and items consistent with narcotics distribution.

The investigation further revealed the accused was found to have sold the 14-year-old victim the illicit narcotics which contained fentanyl. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Latae’veion Naveiour WOODS, was arrested. First Sgt. Jonathan Perok, who heads the PWC Police Department’s public information office, said, “At this time, this investigation cannot be connected to the death of 15-year-old Woodbridge teen which occurred on April 24. The investigation into that teen’s death continues.”
