Owen Williams, retired US hydrologist, veteran, church elder, singer, Park West Lion, father of two

Owen Williams, 83, of Gainesville, VA passed away on April 10, 2020 at his residence. 

He was born on May 19, 1936 in Ashley, PA son of the late Floyd and Catherine Williams. He graduated from Ashley High School and went on to Wilkes College where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.  Upon graduation from college he was employed with the United States Geological Survey as a hydrologist in the Water Resources Division.  He retired in 1997. 

He was a member of Manassas Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon.  He was a member of the Park West Lions Club where he served in several roles over the years. He was also a member of American Legion, an assistant Boy Scout Leader and served in the U. S. Army stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.

Owen’s hobbies included drawing, reading, writing, stamp collecting, genealogy, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. He loved singing at church and with his singing group, “Men in Song.”  Some of his favorite hymns were Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Ashgrove (Welsh) and Guide me, oh my Great Jehovah.

He is survived by his wife Rose; daughters Megan Williams and Lindsey Colgan; sons-in-law Erik Sandberg and Mikey Colgan; sister Gerda Seaber of Vero Beach, FL; brother Floyd Williams and sister-in-law Joy of Sayre, PA; four granddaughters Sydney, Riley, Avery and Lily Colgan and many nieces and nephews. 

Services and interment will be private.  A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in his memory be made to Park West Lions Club.
