Stonewall grad (2003) Brooke Obie to be named to list of most influential African Americans of year

Brooke Obie, a 2003 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School (summa cum laude) in Manassas, will be honored on Nov. 21 by the New York news organization The Root as one of its annual list of the most influential African Americans of the year: https://interactives.theroot.com/root-100-2019/brooke-obie/ .

Obie, whose family lives in Haymarket, is the managing editor for the Black film and TV entertainment site Shadow And Act and is being honored on The Root 100 for her reporting ou the movie Green Book.

She interviewed the family of Dr. Donald Shirley (portrayed in the movie by Mahershala Ali) and they debunked the film as “a symphony of lies.” Her interview went viral and made Green Book the most controversial Oscar Best Picture winner since Crash.
