Five people lose home; two dogs revived, three die in Manassas Park house fire Jan. 12

Manassas Park Fire Chief David O. Dixon reports that firefighters located and removed five unresponsive dogs when they searched for occupants in a burning house in Manassas Park Thursday afternoon. Firefighters and paramedics provided lifesaving treatment to all five unresponsive animals. Two were revived and transported to a local emergency veterinary clinic by Manassas Park Police animal control, the fire chief said.

Fire and rescue units from Manassas Park City, Manassas City, and Prince William County along with Manassas Park Police Department, were dispatched at 1:11 p.m. to 118 Baker Street, City of Manassas Park, after a house fire was reported.

The first fire units arrived on scene within 5 minutes of being dispatched and observed a working residential structure fire with smoke and flames visible, according to Chief Dixon.

Firefighters quickly entered the structure for fire attack and search for any occupants. Five dogs were located and removed from the home, and the fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters which limited fire damage to just the structure of origin, the fire chief went on to say.

One occupant, who was not home at the time of the fire, experienced a medical emergency after arriving at the scene, according to Chief Dixon. The occupant was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital, he said.

Chief Dixon reported that fire started in the living room and has been ruled accidental due to careless smoking. Five occupants were displaced.  American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist with temporary relocation. The total fire loss was estimated to be $125,000, according to the report from Manassas Park Department of Fire & Rescue.
