I-66 eastbound vehicle fire below US 15 bridge closes both roads Monday morning
Gainesville supervisor Pete Candland says he has been notified by Virginia Department of Transportation that a vehicle caught fire on Interstate 66, underneath the Route 15 overpass this morning, July 18.
As a result, both Eastbound and Westbound lanes on I-66 near the Haymarket exit were closed, and police are diverting and directing traffic on Route 15 while damage to the overpass bridge is assessed.
V-DOT and local officials are working hard to determine the damage and clear the area, but substantial delays are expected.
” I will make available via email and my facebook page any further details I receive from state and local transportation officials. Please also inform any friends and family who may need to drive on I-66 or Route 15 near the I-66 Haymarket Exit today to try and avoid this area,” Candland said in a press release..
