The Prince William Committee of 100 will host a Feb. 23 debate on the issue of “Can PWC protect itself from an EMP event? Is there a plan, state or local? Who is responsible for recovery from outages?”
The debate will be based on the 2004 Report of the National Commission to Assess the Threat to the US from an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack which stated that an adversary does not need to be highly sophisticated to be able to launch an EMP attach, but an EMP attack can cause significant damage to critical infrastructure, according to the Committee of 100’s news release.
The optional social is at 6:30 p.m. followed by the optional dinner at 7 p.m. and free program at 7:45 p.m. at Wyndham Garden Hotel, 10800 Vandor Lane, Manassas (Intersection Rt. 66 and Bus. 234, Manassas).
Inclement weather policy: In the event of snow or ice follow PWC school closure schedule.
Moderator will be Jonathan L. Way, Vice-Mayor, City of Manassas.
Speakers include Charles Manto, CEO, Instant Access Networks, LLC, founder, leader, InfraGard National’s Electromagnetic Pulse Special Interest Group; Patrick M. Collins, Emergency Services Manager, Prince William County Office of Emergency Management; and others to be announced.
Must RSVP for dinner by Friday, February 19, 2016 @ Noon, $25 members and $30 guests.
