“This is an unequaled opportunity for students to get a head start in a challenging and financially rewarding career,” a news release quoted Doug Wright, supervisor of PWCS Career and Technical Education, as saying.

“Once enrolled in the HVAC program through PWCS course offerings, juniors and seniors will be dual enrolled as PWCS students and NOVA college students. The HVAC students will receive free tuition for college credit-bearing courses plus free textbooks, a combined savings of about $1,800.”

HVAC is one of several specialty program offerings in PWCS. The program this year is a “hybrid,” says Wright, which means that rising ninth graders and sophomores may apply to transfer to Freedom High School and juniors and seniors may apply if they provide their own transportation. The NOVA HVAC program is located on the Woodbridge NOVA campus, across the street from Freedom High School.

Choosing a career in HVAC can be rewarding, and it is a field that can lead to employment locally, including within PWCS which opens new schools each year.

“We currently employ many technicians from the NOVA HVAC program. Being able to track these kids from high school through the program, and hopefully offering an internship and eventually employment is a huge deal for all of us,” Danny Murrin, administrative coordinator for HVAC in PWCS, was quoted as saying in a press release.

Wright says his office will accept applications to the HVAC program through March 15, although the online application site closed February 1. Contact his office directly if interested in applying, at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
