Woodbridge teen, 17, turns himself into police in connection with March 31 residential burglary

**UPDATES**

Residential Burglary *ARREST –
On June 28, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit identified the suspect involved in the burglary to an apartment which was reported to have occurred in the 1900 block of Briar Rose Ln in Woodbridge on March 31. A search warrant was subsequently executed at the residence of the accused. Following the investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for the arrest of the accused. The accused turned himself into police without incident at the Gar-Field Station in Woodbridge later that afternoon.

Residential Burglary [Previously Released] – On March 31 at 5:00PM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 1900 block of Briar Rose Ln in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a burglary. A resident reported to police that the burglary occurred between 5:30AM and 3:15PM. The investigation revealed that entry was made into the residence through a rear window which was found damaged. Three firearms, ammunition, and jewelry were reported missing.

**INCIDENTS**

Strong Armed Robbery | Malicious Wounding – On June 28 at 6:25PM, officers responded to investigate a robbery which was reported to have occurred in the 18000 block of Fraley Blvd in Dumfries (22026) around 4:00AM that morning.

The victim, a 28 year old man of Dumfries, reported to police that he was walking in the above area when he was approached by a group of unknown men. During the encounter, three of the men asked for a cigarette then demanded the whole pack. When the victim refused, he was struck in the back of the head causing him to fall to the ground. While on the ground, the suspects continued to kick and hit him. At some point, the victim was struck with an unknown object causing a serious laceration.

The suspects eventually left and the victim’s cell phone was reported missing. After the altercation, the victim walked to his residence before eventually responding to an area hospital later that afternoon where police were contacted. The victim was not able to provide any suspect information. The investigation continues.

Attempted Residential Burglary – On June 27 at 11:31PM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 2700 block of Landings Point Loop, Woodbridge (22191), to investigate a burglary. A resident reported to police that entry was attempted into the apartment at an unknown time through a patio door which was found damaged.  No entry is believed to have been made into the residence and no property was reported missing.

**ARRESTS**

Sexual Assault Investigation – On June 28 at 4:24AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 13500 block of Lynn St in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a sexual assault.

The victim, a 19 year old woman of Burke, reported to police that while she was at the above address she was approached by the accused, an acquaintance. During the encounter, the accused sexually assaulted the victim. When the victim left the room, the accused followed her to a bedroom. At some point, the victim retrieved a pocket knife and cut the accused in the arm as she attempted to get away. The parties eventually separated and the victim contacted police. The accused was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Charged with object sexual penetration and sexual battery

Strangulation | Domestic Assault & Battery – On June 26 at 12:03AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 14600 block of Colchester Rd in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a domestic assault.

The victim, a 42 year old woman of Woodbridge, reported to police that she and the accused, a family member, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated.

During the encounter, the accused pushed the victim onto a bed then grabbed her by the neck and began to strangle her. The parties eventually separated and the victim contacted police. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested without incident.

Ricardo AQUINO MENDEZ, 25, of the 14600 block of Colchester Rd in Woodbridge
Charged with strangulation and domestic assault & battery
Court Date: Pending | Bond: Held WITHOUT Bond

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On June 27 at 8:43PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 1000 block of Tournai Ct in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a domestic assault.

The victim, a 64 year old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that he and the accused, a 17-year-old family member, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated. During the encounter, the accused punched and kicked the victim. The parties eventually separated and the victim contacted police. Minor injuries were reported.

When officers arrived, they detained the accused. While being escorted to a police cruiser, the accused resisted and bit one of the officers. As the accused was being placed inside the cruiser, she continued to resist and kicked two other officers in the lower body. The accused was eventually secured without further incident. No injuries were reported to the officers. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.
