Witnesses point police to suspect in hit and run accident; child, 6, treated at local hospital

Attempted Malicious Wounding on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] | DUI Maiming – On August 19 at 12:55PM, Prince William County police officers responded the area of Dale Blvd and Jefferson Davis Hwy in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a hit & run crash, according to Sgt. Jonathan Perok, police department spokesman.

A responding officer was driving southbound in the area of Farm Creek Dr and observed the suspect vehicle driving northbound. The vehicle accelerated and drove into oncoming traffic, heads on towards the officer. The officer was able to maneuver the cruiser and avoided a collision, Perok said.

The vehicle continued to actively flee from police. The vehicle was located in a parking lot a short time later where multiple witnesses said they observed the driver flee on foot. Officers searched the area and located the driver, identified as the accused, according to the police report.

Upon further investigation, it was determined the accused was under the influence of alcohol.

A 6-year-old was treated at a local hospital for injuries from the crash, police said.

Following the investigation, the accused, identified as GUEVARA-HERNANDEZ, was arrested.

Charged with attempted malicious wounding of LEO, DUI maiming, felony hit and run, and felony eluding
