US 15 to be closed Sunday Oct. 18 to repair train tracks in Haymarket

On Sunday, October 18 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern will be closing US 15 (James Madison Highway) at the railroad crossing just south of VA 55 in Haymarket in order to replace the at-grade crossing.
Traffic will be detoured via US 29 and VA 55. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists.

Newport News middle school teacher Chanda Woods is Region 2 Teacher of the Year
Chanda Woods, an integrated language arts teacher at Newport News Public Schools’ Crittenden Middle School, has been named the 2025 Virginia Regional Teacher of the Year (Region 2) by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Woods has been a teacher and a mentor for 26 years.
