4. 15th Annual Heritage Charity Classic 5K/2K Cancer Walk/Run/Bike, at 8 AM on the lawn of the Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club in the Heritage Hunt community in Gainesville. Benefits Novant UVA Cancer Center at Lake Manassas in Gainesville.  Info: Frank Maresca at 703-743-5088. 5. National Public Lands Day trail building project at Dove’s Landing Park, 9250 Doves Lane, Manassas, VA 20112. 8:30 a.m. coffee and donuts in parking lot, 9 a.m. to noon trail building with other volunteers from Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition (PWTSC),  Mid Atlantic Off Road Enthusiasts (MORE), Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT), and the Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation. Projects include – construction of a new boardwalk to carry the trail over swampy ground, building new trail reroutes to make the trail more sustainable, installing signs, and general trail maintenance. Tina V, host of ” The Tina V Show,”  based in Fairfax, is headlining this event. Children are welcome. There will be live performances by many genres of music and local vendors.

11.  Half-Marathon in Prince William County.

12. Prince William County Animal Shelter Fall Festival, 14807 Bristow Road in Manassas (20112). Noon-4 p.m. Rabies clinic, 1-3 p.m., sponsored by the Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PWC SPCA). Dogs and cats, vaccine and certificate for $10. Nails trimmed/ $5 per animal. For the safety of everyone, all dogs that attend must be on a leash; all cats that attend must be in carriers. Vendors, family fun activities, and free giveaways of pet-related items. Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Children’s Library, which is also sponsored by the PWC SPCA and organized by Girl Scouts in the Westridge area of Lake Ridge. Shelter will have animals for adoption.
