Students at Prince William County Schools earn awards in Help a Horse art contest

Seven students from Prince William County Public Schools earned awards in the Help a Horse contest, sponsored by the Prince William County Animal Shelter as part of its annual “Help a Horse” Day event.

This year’s theme was “Horse Feathers,” and all artwork included an equine animal. The Shelter received a record of 32 submissions this year, and the judge and organizers said they were impressed with the talent and creativity of all student submissions.

Winners include:
• Lauren Kelley, eighth-grade student at Marsteller Middle School, earned champion and most popular
• Chloe Nguyen-Laget, eighth-grade student at Reagan Middle School, earned first place
• Janya Choudhary, seventh-grade student at Reagan Middle School, earned second place
• Elizabeth Pumphrey, eighth-grade student at Benton Middle School, earned third place
• Cassandra Barnes, seventh-grade student at Marsteller Middle School, earned fourth place
• Meredith Thompson, fifth-grader at Minnieville Elementary School, earned fifth place
• Amy Chavez, seventh-grade student at Saunders Middle School earned sixth place

The winning artwork will be displayed at the McCoart County Government Building from May 25 – June 1.
