Prince William County Department of Development Services announced its Small Business Project Management Program (SBPM) supported 19 small business owners, who successfully ‘Opened for Business’ in May 2022.
“While we saw a tapering-off of small business projects in May, we received a higher-than-normal volume of inquiries from customers wanting information before they start a project, which is the best time to discuss business use types, code regulations and specific structural requirements,” said Wade A. Hugh, Director, Department of Development Services. “We are also finding more small businesses are requiring custom Tenant Layouts, which is a more complex process than the typical small business project application for a Joint Occupancy Evaluation.”
Five new ventures opened or changed ownership on U.S. Route 1 Richmond Hwy. Shaddai Communications moved to 13905 Richmond Hwy, formerly known as Jefferson Davis Hwy. Barberie and Salon opened at 14433 Richmond Hwy and Beautician Mix & Beauty Supply & Braiding moved to 13981 Richmond Hwy. El Establo Bar & Grill restaurant opened at 14482 Richmond Hwy and Autohub Center is now open at 14310 Richmond Hwy.
Other welcome businesses to Woodbridge are Brighttooth Dental Lab, the ReUp LLC retail store in Opitz Crossing and Extreme Custom Collision at 1356 Profit Court.
In addition, Diamond Lotus Nail Spa, formerly Potomac Nail Spa, opened at 14901 Potomac Town Place in Stonebridge Shopping Center.
Two Brothers Express fast food restaurant opened at 9745 Liberia Ave., Manassas, and Mini T’s Tire & Auto opened at Citgo gas station on Dumfries Rd. across from the PW Fairgrounds. Chi Martial Arts Academy opened at 10390 Portsmouth Road, Manassas.
LCI Companies, an excavation, demolition, and site development business, opened in Gainesville.
Newly located on Balls Ford Road is the Maasia Group. Sophie & M Beauty opened in Heritage Village Plaza and Pam Zecka now provides hairdressing services at 7509 Presidential Lane.
Swim Kids Aquatics in Potomac Festival, across from Potomac Mills Mall, is operating under ESN Swim School, which is also now located in Wellington Center. Shaw Services Air Conditioning and Heating is also now open for business at 9345 Mike Garcia Drive.
In the period January -May 2022, 161 small business owners have opened their doors in the County. Since 2018, the Program has served more than 1,335 small business owners.
As lead Development Services Agency for PWC, the Department of Development Services is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code by reviewing commercial and residential construction plans, issuing permits, inspecting structures, and enforcing building code requirements. The Department also manages the site and subdivision plan review and permit issuance process, administers the posting and releasing of bonds and escrows, and issues zoning permits.
