Police officer hit by vehicle in Dumfries parking lot; suspect arrested in Stafford

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On October 24 at 8:11PM, detectives from the Street Crimes Unit were on proactive patrol when a suspicious vehicle was observed in the parking of the 7-Eleven located at 17105 Old Stage Rd in Dumfries (22025). When detectives approached the vehicle, a female passenger opened the door in an attempt to exit the vehicle. At that point, the driver, later identified as the accused, put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated. The opened door struck one of the detectives in the shoulder as the accused fled the scene. Stafford County deputies later located the accused in their jurisdiction and detained him. The female passenger was also located inside the vehicle. The investigation revealed that both parties were at the location to purchase narcotics. The officer sustained minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Kevin Bryan NEAL, was arrested.

Charged with assault & battery on a LEO, felony eluding, driving under the influence, unreasonable refusal, and conspiracy to distribute a schedule I or II narcotic
