Police K-9 sniffs out suspect, then apprehends him; suspect charged with assault on law enforcement

Assault and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On February 12 at 2:30PM, officers responded to a parking lot area in the 17100 block of Dumfries Rd. in Dumfries (22025) to assist in locating a suspect involved in two separate incidents under investigation by Virginia State Police and Dumfries Town Police.

A Prince William County police K-9 responded and searched the area for the suspect which led to a nearby hotel. During the investigation, the suspect was observed outside on the second-floor balcony and was informed he was under arrest. The suspect refused to comply with commands and attempted to flee through several different hotel rooms. After a brief foot pursuit, the police K-9 apprehended the suspect.

During the apprehension, the suspect struck the police K-9 and continued to actively resist. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect and police K-9 reported minor injuries.

The hotel room where the suspect was temporarily residing was searched, resulting in a firearm and suspected marijuana being located, according to the police report. The firearm was previously reported stolen out of Prince William County.

Following the investigation, officers obtained warrants for the arrest of the suspect, identified as Dwayne Hakeen WESTFIELD.

Dwayne Hakeen WESTFIELD, 27, of 2532 Sedgewick Pl. in Dumfries
Charged with assault & battery on LEO, obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, concealing a stolen firearm, unlawful entry and possession of marijuana
Court Date: Pending | Bond: Remains Incarcerated
