Osbourn High School to dedicate gym floor in honor of beloved coach the late Barry Sudduth

On Friday, January 12, 2018, Osbourn High School will dedicate its gym floor in honor of Barry Sudduth, a beloved coach and teacher who passed away suddenly in 2015.

Sudduth began his career at OHS in 1977 as a social studies teacher and also served as the first boys basketball coach for the school.

According to Ira DeGrood, Osbourn’s athletic director, the gym floor has been fully refurbished and the words “Barry A. Sudduth Court” are displayed on each side of the floor.

“Coach Sudduth gave nearly 40 years of his life to Osbourn and this community,” said DeGrood.  “He was the ultimate example of what an OHS Eagle is and our committee felt that naming the court in his honor would allow his name to live on in the building he loved so much.”

In addition to his teaching duties, Sudduth coached many sports during his tenure at the school, including boys and girls basketball, softball and golf.  He also served as the school’s athletic director for two years.

The dedication ceremony will take place Friday night at approximately 7:00 pm, following the conclusion of the girls basketball game and just before tipoff for the varsity boys game against Patriot High School at Osbourn.  A special plaque will also be presented during the ceremony.

The public is invited to attend. All attendees must have a ticket, which is $6 each.
