Noted actor Ed Asner is Grand Marshal for Greater Manassas Christmas Parade

The Greater Manassas Christmas Parade is honored to announce the 2015 Grand Marshal, Ed Asner.  Asner may be best known for his role as Lou Grant on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and later on a spin off titled Lou Grant. Some might best recognize him as the voice of the older man in the 2009 Pixar film Up or as Santa Claus in the 2003 movie Elf. 

Asner is known to be a versatile, committed, eloquent and talented actor and has received seven Emmy Awards – the most any man has ever received.

One of the most honored actors in the history of television; he has received 16 Emmy nominations as well as five Golden Globe Awards.

His inexhaustible and much honored acting career demonstrates a consummate ability to transcend the line between comedy and drama.

Asner received two of his Emmys and Golden Globe Awards for the mini-series Rich Man, Poor Man and Roots.

He also served as National President of the Screen Actors Guild for two terms. He was inducted into the TV Academy Hall of Fame in 1996.

In 2000, Asner received the Ralph Morgan Award from the Screen Actors Guild, which is presented periodically for distinguished service to the Guild’s Hollywood membership.

In March 2002, he was honored by The Guild as the 38th recipient of the prestigious Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment, presented annually to an actor who fosters the highest ideals of the profession.

Asner is joining us for our parade with a most appropriate theme – ‘Lights…Camera…Christmas!’  The 70th Annual Parade – sponsored by Northwest Federal Credit Union and the City of Manassas – will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, 10 a.m. rain, snow or shine! 

The parade begins on Mathis Avenue and continues through Historic Downtown.  See Asner, local celebrities, and an amazing display of bands, floats, animals, and marching and performing groups…and Santa Claus!
