Heart health event Sept. 21 at Exit 40 Farmers Market in Haymarket

Thursday, Sept. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. Novant Health UVA Health System will host a Heart Healthy Event at the Exit 40 Farmers’ Market at Haymarket Medical Center.

The heart healthy market event is being held to support saving 10,000 hearts – a challenge aimed at educating people in the region about their heart health by 2018.

Activities include: a Heart Healthy Live Cooking Demonstration at 3 p.m., featuring local chef Aaron Lynch from Hidden Julles Café; a Facebook LIVE presentation from 4 to 5 p.m.; free heart health risk assessments and other free health screenings; an Ask the Heart Experts Booth with Novant Health UVA Health System providers answering questions about heart health; promotional specials offered by market vendors and giveaways.

Novant Health UVA Health System is encouraging the community to take the 10,000 Healthy Hearts Challenge by completing the online heart disease risk assessment that analyzes cardiovascular risk factors, such as blood pressure, cigarette smoking, diabetes and body mass index.

In the U.S., 3 out of 4 adults have a heart age that is older than their actual age. The 10,000 Healthy Hearts Challenge campaign and event goals promote an understanding of why heart health matters, help our community members be aware of risk factors that affect their heart health and encourage them to take action to protect their heart. Novant Health UVA Health System is hosting this event to advance their mission to improve the health of our communities, one person at a time.

Exit 40 Farmers’ Market is located on the campus of Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center, just off of the intersection of Routes 15 and 66 at Exit 40 at Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center, 15225 Heathcote Blvd., Haymarket, VA 20169.
