The “Alternative Education” School Naming Committee will hold a community input session to receive name suggestions for the “Alternative Education” School, also known as “Non-Traditional School,” currently under construction at 14550 Aden Road, in Manassas. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Colgan High School in Manassas.
The committee will consider geographic or historical identifiers, as well as names of living or deceased person(s) who have made local, state, or national service contributions. Selection preference shall be given to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of education, especially within Prince William County.
Citizens who make a suggestion are encouraged to provide background information to aid in the selection process. Please see School Board Policy 854 and Regulation 854-1 for details.
The Naming Committee is composed of all School Board members, as the “Alternative Education” school will not have a specified attendance area.
Recommendations of the School Naming Committee will be presented to the full School Board for information on March 1, 2017, and for action on March 15, 2017.
The new school will open in 2018. It is being constructed to replace the PACE East School, and to consolidate the middle and high school nontraditional programs located at the New Dominion Alternative Education Center and New Directions Alternative Education Center.
Any questions, comments, or naming suggestions may be submitted to the Office of Facilities Services, at 703.791.7312.
