Prince William County fire and rescue units were dispatched at 12:26 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, to the 100 block of Washington Street, in the Town of Occoquan, for a reported apartment building on fire, according to Matt Smolsky, Assistant Fire Chief-Fire Marshal.
The fire official reported that crews arrived on scene to find smoke and fire showing from a six-unit apartment building. Smolsky said, “Thanks to the actions of the neighbors, who alerted the building’s occupants, all were safely evacuated from the structure. No injuries were reported.”
Smolsky said the fire did extensive damage, and the structure was determined to be unsafe to occupy by the Building Official. The American Red Cross is assisting the eight adults who were displaced from the six units in the apartment building.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is still on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.
