“Connecting with the World: People, Places, Language, and Culture” on Saturday, April 7.

Are you curious about what life is like for those in other countries? Do you wonder how we can resolve conflicts in our world? The public is invited to explore these and other topics in sessions at Hylton High School’s annual conference, “Connecting with the World: People, Places, Language, and Culture,” on Saturday, April 7. Hylton’s Center for International Studies and Languages (CISL) program will host the event from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This event is an opportunity for students, parents, PWCS faculty, and community members to come together for a day of fun and learning with the aim of increasing global awareness. This year, the keynote speaker is Adam Seitz, a senior research associate and instructor for Middle East Studies at Marine Corps University.

This year’s conference sessions include: Bhangra: The Dance Form, Foreign Exchange Students: Different Perspectives, Mehendi: The Art of Henna Painting, Art and Symbolism of Decorated Eggs (Pysanky), The Secret History of Mongolia, Soldiers of Color in the Second World War: How Troops of African, Asian and non-European Origins Helped Win WWII, Tae Kwon Do: The Art of Combining Mind and Body, and more. For lunch, conference participants can choose from an international food court, catered by local restaurants.

Advance registration and fee reserves all sessions, a light breakfast and full lunch from an International Food Court, catered by local restaurants; students $20, adults $25.

If you are interested in sharing your knowledge, customs or culture with us, please consider offering a session for the 2018 CISL conference: https://goo.gl/forms/5yKWibDL6Ri5u3M32
