Candland asks residents to sign e-petition to SCC urging burying proposed power lines

Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland is again asking residents to sign the e-petition asking the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) to accept its staff report which recommends that the proposed Dominion Power Lines be buried rather than strung overhead.

“If you have already signed it, thank you and I challenge you to forward it to a neighbor who may not have seen it,” he said in a press release.

The supervisor noted that in the June 2 SCC staff report, the recommendation was made t that no justification exists for imposing the adverse impacts of overhead power lines on homeowners, and if one customer decides to proceed with building its data center complex, it should be required to pay for the new power lines, including the cost of partially under-grounding the power lines to mitigate the negative impact on the citizens in our community.

The final decision will be made by the State Corporation Commission, which has scheduled the next hearing on the proposed Dominion Power lines for June 21 at the SCC offices in Richmond.

Candland says he intends to submit a new letter to the SCC at the June 21 hearing in Richmond and asks that residents and forward the link to neighbors to sign as well. Here is the link Candland’s office provided: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Amazonpowerlines

Additionally, residents who would like to submit comments directly to the SCC and have not done so can go to http://www.scc.virginia.gov/case/PublicComments.aspx and scroll to case #PUE-2015-00107. You will then see a link to click to submit your comments.
