Aug. 14 groundbreaking ceremony for new Coles District fire station on Rte. 234

Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday Aug. 14, at 10 a.m., for the construction of the new Coles District Fire Station being erected at 13712 Dumfries Road, (Rte. 234) Manassas.

The 21,400 square-foot station will house an engine, heavy rescue and tanker. Also supported from this station is a basic life support (BLS) ambulance, hazardous material response units, and a brush Truck.

The station’s design and strategic location will help to increase the level of service provided to the residents of Prince William County, according to a DFR news release.

The design of the new station began in August 2013. Reconstruction of the building is expected to begin this month with an anticipated completion date in late Fall of 2018.

The station was opened 1949, when the Coles District Volunteer Fire Department was organized. The original building, located on the Dumfries Road site, was replaced in 1979 by the current building.

In 2014, the Coles District Volunteer Company merged with the Department of Fire and Rescue. More than 40 fire and rescue members are assigned to the station

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Photo opportunities will be available throughout the event.
