CENTREVILLE – The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a virtual construction update Wednesday, June 29 beginning ar 7 p.m.on work to rehabilitate the northbound Route 29 (Lee Highway) bridge over Cub Run to improve driver and pedestrian safety and extend the overall life of the bridge. The bridge was originally built in 1954.
The improvements include:
• Replacing the concrete deck and bridge rails
• Installing steel beams
• Adding a walkway with barrier and connecting the walkway to the existing sidewalk just north of the bridge
• Rebuilding the concrete pedestals
• Replacing the bridge bearings
• Repairing cracks
Construction is underway and the project is scheduled for completion in spring 2023.
The bridge averages 13,000 vehicles a day based on 2019 data.
The project is financed with federal and state funding, including State of Good Repair funds used for bridges.
Nighttime Traffic Shift June 18
Between 10 p.m. Saturday, June 18 and 8 a.m. Sunday, June 19, Route 29 north will have single-lane closures between White Post Road and Paddington Lane to implement a traffic shift for the bridge work. The northbound lanes will be shifted to the right until later this summer.
In lieu of an in-person meeting, VDOT invites residents and travelers to learn more and participate in the Wednesday, June 29 virtual meeting. The project team will make a short presentation beginning at 7 p.m. and answer questions for about an hour after the presentation.
