Margaret Mitchell McLeod Price, Stonewall Middle teacher for 26 years, and loved to travel

Margaret Mitchell McLeod Price, a teacher at Stonewall Middle School (now Unity Braxton) in Manassas for 26 years until her retirement in 1999 and an avid traveler, died Jan. 26, 2024 at an assisted living facility in Alexandria. She had complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease. She was 77.

She was the beloved wife of Eugene O. Price. She is also survived by a daughter,  Allyson McLeod Price McGrath, her husband, Jeffrey M. McGrath and one grandson, Colin James McGrath, and several cousins. 

Margaret graduated from Grimsley High School in Greensboro, NC and earned her B.S. degree from Greensboro College in Greensboro and her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Western Carolina University, Culowhee, NC.

She met her husband at her first teaching job in Weaver Auditorium, East Southern Pines Schools, Southern Pines, NC, where she taught for one year. Then she taught for two years at Shamble High School, Shamble, GA. Her next teaching assignment was at Pinehurst Elementary School, Pinehurst, NC for two years. After she received her master’s degree, she accepted a one-year teaching position at Martha Dendy Middle School in Clinton, SC. She moved from there to Manassas where she taught for 26 years at Stonewall Middle School.

Following her retirement, Margaret moved to Denver, NC, where she lived until she was moved to an assisted living facility in Alexandria, VA, near her daughter and family.

An avid traveler, Margaret had visited 49 states and had made five trips to Europe and several trips to Canada. She visited Argentina and Uruguay in South America; Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland. France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece and its island possessions of Corfu and Crete, Italy,, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia (St. Petersburg), Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, where she visited Istanbul, and crossed over to set foot on the continent of Asia.

Her traveling companions often included her husband’s brother, Wade R. Price, and his wife, Matha Little Price; her husband’s sisters Carolyn Price Fox, and Mary Price Kaylor, and their husbands, Alan Fox and Eugene Kaylor, She also traveled with her husband’s nephew Wade F. Keeler Jr. and his wife Renee.

As Margaret wished, there was no funeral or burial ceremony.. Her ashes were scattered in the Atlantic Ocean. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Goodwin Hospice, 3440 S. Jefferson St., Falls Church, VA 22041-3123 or to Russia Austin College Fund, Friendship Lutheran Church, 5300 Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
