John Loveland, Navy veteran, 45 years in law enforcement, church volunteer, outdoorsman, father

John Leonard Loveland, 74, was called home by our Lord on Feb. 6, 2021. He passed away peacefully at his Haymarket home in his sleep due to coronary heart disease. His loving, devoted wife Judi, was by his side.

John’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at Park Valley Church, 4500 Waverly Farm Drive, Haymarket VA 20169.

John was born in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 22, 1946, He graduated from Suitland High School, Forestville, MD in 1965, excelling in sports prior to graduation. He joined the Navy and shipped off to Vietnam. After completing his service, he moved to Virginia, where he spent the remainder of his life. His final residence was in Haymarket.

John joined the U. S. Park Police and retired as a special forces motor officer.  He also retired as a supervisor at the U. S. Park Police Communication Center.  He devoted his life to 45 years of law enforcement and protecting others.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.  He had many interests, but the most important part of his life was his love of God through Jesus Christ. He always had a giving, servant’s heart and was busy serving at Park Valley Church.  He served on the security team, as a greeter and usher, but he loved most serving in the nursery with the babies, where he became affectionately known as the “Baby Whisperer.”

Along with family and friends, John loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and teaching. Another love was building and designing furniture, bathrooms, tables and toys.

John was preceded in death by his father, Warren LeRoy Loveland, Sr., his mother, Helen Marie Loveland and his brothers, Warren LeRoy Loveland, Jr. and Richard Allan Loveland.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judi; his sister, Barbara Loveland Wiley, his sons, John LeRoy Loveland, (Amy), Michael Loveland, (Maridela), his granddaughter, Sofia “Little Bits” Loveland, sister-in-law, Jane Loveland, former wife Miren M. Loveland, stepchildren, Adam D. Cooper, (Courtney). Matthew C. Cooper, (Jocelyn), Kimberly Cooper Baker, (Michael), and nine step-grandchildren, Wyatt, Emily, Elijah, Jaden, Zion, Finney, Joel, Glory and Maravian.

Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later time.
