Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens.

Jean grew up in Northern California and on a Native American reservation in Arizona.  She also lived with her parents and sister in Albuquerque, New Mexico before attending the University of Idaho. She eventually transferred to the University of Texas, where she graduated with a Bachelors in German.

Jean raised her three children in Austin, Texas while she worked for the State of Texas as an inspector. Jean continued her professional career as a financial systems analyst working in the state governments of Hawaii and Pennsylvania and in the defense industry.

Jean had so many interests and loves.  She loved her children and her six grandsons, who called her Grammy, and she loved her dog Tux.  She loved football, classical music, gardening, and American and maritime history.  Jean particularly enjoyed genealogy and researching her family history.  This enjoyment led her to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Elizabeth McIntosh Hammill Chapter, for which she served as Vice-Regent from September 2013 – September 2014 and Chapter Regent from September 2014 – June 2016.  Jean read extensively on the life of Thomas Jefferson and greatly enjoyed visiting the historic Monticello.

She is survived by her longtime friend and companion Tom Pettit of Haymarket, VA; her son Kevin Ryan of Little Rock, Arkansas, her daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Brian Mahon of Antwerp, Belgium and her son and daughter-in-law Kelly and Ame Ryan of Angier, North Carolina. She is also survived by six grandsons Cooper, Andrew, Eric, Rory, Connor and Shane.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. Tax ID #54-0505959.  Donations can be made via the website at
