Hugh B. Browning, former principal of Woodbridge High School, veteran, Rotarian, father

A life celebration service for Hugh Burton Browning, a former principal of Woodbridge High School, and a Prince William County Schools employee for 37 years from 1957 to 1994, was held on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 at at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road Woodbridge VA 22191. Browning, who lived in Woodbridge, VA, died in his home on Sunday Jan 29, 2017.

Interment was at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas VA 20109 on Friday, February 3, 2017.

He served in the US Army, taught history and other subjects, was Principal of Woodbridge Senior High School, was Director of Secondary Education in Prince William County, VA, and finished his career at Fred Lynn Middle School as guidance counselor.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and especially golfing. He was an avid reader, scholar and historian. Hugh was instrumental in starting both an outstanding sports program and humanities program at Woodbridge Senior High School.

In addition to being a founding member of the Woodbridge Rotarians, he also was a member of many other local and national groups.

The world was left a better place by his presence and he is greatly missed by friends and family. If there was ever someone who led a life of service to his fellow man, Hugh led such a life.

Surviving Hugh are his wife Betty Lou, son Dr. J. Burton Browning, brothers Brooks Browning and Larry Browning, and sister Elaine Lyle.
